44. Government Motors

Not sure who the author is.  We will give credit once we find out.

_____

11-27-18 (0900) GM closing 5 plants, 14K jobs to be lost, why? Well it is NOT because of tariffs, but you might want to ask the democrats and especially NObama WHY “our TAX DOLLARS” were wasted on a FAILED business model back in 2009, which includes attempting to use agenda driven business decisions in concert with GOVERNMENTAL strong arm tactics, and MANDATING they make electric cars, BYE BYE to the VOLT. ~ Michael Slavin Sr. ~

The following missive that is nearly a decade old in the making, and tells the real story of the failure of government interference on a massive basis. To wit;

12-23-11 (1808)

ANYONE that supports the "government motors" spontaneous combustion, barely selling, HEAVELY tax payer subsidized chevy DOLT needs to do some research.

Why not talk about how unsafe having a huge battery within a few feet from the occupants is/and could potentially be?

The fact that the battery is unstable, unsafe and should not even be on our roads until the government appointed mgmt. ‘team’ (BLACKMAIL INCORPORATED) addresses said issues?

To those of you saying that NOT producing MORE battery powered vehicles is the reason our country cannot compete with foreign auto makers is completely wrong.

The reason our big two (FORD/Chrysler) plus GOVERNMENT MOTORS cannot compete, has nothing to do refusing to mass produce and supporting a car that the majority of Americans do not want, and frankly cannot afford during this steep economic downturn.

It has EVERYTHING to do with the uber liberal and thuggish UAW, in concert with politicians, and to a lesser extent board members, (folding to their CANCEROUS demands) who over the course of 40 years, bankrupted the City of Detroit. (1960 was the economic apex for Detroit as the number one economy in the United States).

Their ridiculous demands over the years of salary and benefits, rising faster than health care, and the CEO’s that bowed down to them is the root cause of the industries/cities troubles/demise.

These CEO’s KNEW that by the time the shit hit the fan, they would be deep into retirement or 6-feet under, so what they worry?

Guess what, your "average" UAW worker garners $74.00 an hour in salary and benefits, while the "average" Japanese auto worker costs his company $49.00 an hour in salary and benefits.

Riddle me this, how can any company that produces anything compete on the world market with that ridiculous disparity?

The answer is NONE.

Not only that, the Japanese workers are not taking their "lunch breaks" smoking weed and drinking in their union provided parking lots.

Ludicrous does not even begin to describe the actions of a once great and proud industry. It could be great again, let them go bankrupt, rise from the ashes, release the “shackles of union and government control,” and you would probably see them rise again and be able to lead the world instead of being second rate followers.

The bottom line with government motors?

The price of GM stock  needs to get to $52.00 to break even, I.E. to get the taxpayers "investment" back to no gain/no loss. Today the stock finished at 20.20. The stock has been in a free fall ever since "our" money bailed out a failed business model.

Nobama did not save anything, he simply made sure to repay his union thugs that helped him get reelected.

2-16-2012

Part of the telling to the negative problem for GM/investors?

Its earnings per share sucks, its year over year growth rate for the last 3 year period sucks@ 3%, its last quarter earnings per share sucks @MINUS 25%.

Its government run management team, sucks.

Its government mandated production of the fire prone volt is an abysmal failure, with sales well below forecast's and dealerships turning them away and not placing any orders for any more of them.

Oh, and until the ridiculous "concessions" in pay and benefits are reined in the on the thugs known as the UAW, it will never-ever be able to compete in the world market.

One must also factor in the failure that is "OPEL" in Europe? Opel is yet another example of a huge misstep on the part of GM as they bought them out.

3-29-12 (2230)

The auto industry could've taken the "normal" route of bankruptcy and come out stronger and more viable than giving away money to union thugs/bosses that put the big three auto makers into the poor house to begin with.

Not to mention the 1000's of auto dealerships that were forced to close, the auto parts side jobs that were lost via the "restructuring."

Oh, and how about the share-holders and pensioner's that are out millions due to the UNIONS getting paid out first, with some “lucky” retirees getting “pennies on the dollar,” but with MOST not even a pot to piss in for the that rely on those funds to survive on, day in and day out.

Imagine working 20, 30, 40+ years with the constant thought that your retirement/funds are set to be comfortable, then the horrific realization that it was all for naught.

Yet another “bad business decision” NOT moving operations out of Venezuela (there since 1948) when the writing was on the wall when the “dictator” Hugo Chavez came into power in 1999.

OH, for my Detroit/Taylor Michigan peeps….the Government of Venezuela just SEIZED THE GM PLANT!

Parting thought; REMEMBER; Capitalism, though not perfect, (nothing is) is still the best economic tenet going. It has proved itself time and time again to be the vehicle that lifts all boats in a rising tide.

You cannot legislate success, you simply cannot will success and you most certainly cannot regulate and/or set price controls in a consumer based economy.

Government, after all, produces nothing of value, it cannot be held accountable for its failures or wrong minded bets.

The Cancerous history of socialism has been a proven failure time and time again, as a government regulated and controlled economic model.

Not up to speed on history, then one simply can look at the real time examples.

Venezuela, Greece, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Spain, Ireland and Latvia are now drowning in almost insurmountable debt. Why? Socialistic/governmental economic plans/agendas.
Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

Got China?

Bottom line? Whenever a government “employee,” especially the POTUS, appoints a czar to run a private company (car czar Steven RATtner for GM), it will NEVER be an improvement for the people, workers, cities, states or company.

And it will almost ALWAYS result in a cure that was woefully worse than the disease it portended to be the solution to.

I am an independent libertarian with conservative leanings, and I believe everyone deserves the freedom of choice, even if it means buying/supporting things I do not believe in.

With that being said, I also feel that everyone needs to get the straight poop about the fact that the electric vehicle “does not and will not” save mother earth, as far as pollution is concerned. And that they are actually BIGGER polluters than the combustion engine…but I will not add to this lengthy dissertation by giving you the facts. IM if you would like that missive.

I DO NOT get any satisfaction in predicting a ruinous future, but when are more people going to wake up to the fact that the government (I know we get what we voted for) is responsible for 99% of the issues average Americans/families have to deal with on an almost daily basis?

I HOPE and pray something changes to the positive for those negatively impacted by this "government created" failure.

God Bless America.
